Crispy Gram Flour Feta Cheese Paneer Fritters: A Culinary Revelation

There’s nothing like biting into a crispy, golden fritter straight from the pan. These Gram Flour Feta Cheese Paneer Fritters combine rich flavours and textures, transforming simple ingredients into a delightful appetizer or snack. Whether for a cosy gathering or a family meal, these fritters impress everyone, from kids to adults.

The star players in this fritter recipe are gram flour (besan), feta cheese, and paneer.

Gram Flour: Made from ground chickpeas, gram flour is gluten-free and adds a nutty flavour along with a high protein content—about 22 grams per 100 grams. This flour acts as a perfect binder, ensuring that everything holds together beautifully.

Feta Cheese: Known for its tanginess, feta cheese brings a burst of creaminess and a rich flavour to the fritters. It balances the nutty taste of gram flour, offering a complex flavour that excites the palate. And adds to the protein content of the dish.

Paneer: This soft Indian cheese adds a creamy texture to each fritter. The mildness of paneer complements the saltiness of feta, creating a burst of flavour in each bite. Another dash of proteins!

By combining these elements, you build a foundation for a truly special dish that only gets better with the right spices and cooking techniques.

Choosing the right spices can elevate your fritters to new heights. Keep it simple yet flavorful with these essentials.

  • Cumin Powder: Adds warmth and a hint of earthiness. A teaspoon can provide the needed depth.

  • Coriander Powder: This adds a citrusy undertone, complementing the other flavours beautifully.

  • Turmeric: A pinch is not only good for colour but also brings anti-inflammatory properties.

  • Chilli Powder or Fresh Green Chilies: Adjust the heat to your liking; about half a teaspoon of chilli powder can add a pleasant kick.

Freshly chopped herbs like cilantro or mint can further lift your fritters. These spices and herbs together give the Gram Flour Feta Cheese Paneer Fritters a vibrant and inviting flavour profile that is hard to resist.

Ingredients:

  • 100 gms chickpea flour (besan)

  • 1/2 cup Feta Cheese (~50 gms)

  • 1/2 cup grated paneer (~ 50 gms)

  • 1 teaspoon red chilli powder

  • 1 teaspoon cumin powder

  • 1 teaspoon coriander powder

  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder

  • 1 teaspoon chaat masala (optional)

  • Salt to taste

  • 1 tablespoon oil

  • Water as needed

Instructions:

  • In a large bowl, combine gram flour, cumin powder, red chilli powder, garlic powder, coriander powder, and a pinch of salt. Keep the salt content low as feta cheese is salty.

  • Crumble feta cheese and mix it into the dry mixture. Next, add crumbled paneer, folding it into the bowl to keep visible chunks.

  • Mix the ingredients and get them in the shape of cutlets. Add water, if required to bind the ingredients.

  • For a creative twist, add 1/2 cup of finely diced bell peppers or cooked spinach for extra nutrition and colour.

  • Heat a pan and add oil. Once the oil is hot, place the cutlets and let the side get golden brown. Use a spoon to gently turn the fritters once golden brown on one side. Cook until both sides are crispy and evenly browned.

Serving Suggestions: Elevate Your Fritters

Once your fritters are golden and crispy, it’s time to serve them up:

  • Dipping Sauces: Enjoy these fritters with tangy yoghurt sauce, refreshing mint chutney, or spicy salsa. The right dip enhances the flavours remarkably.

  • Garnish: A sprinkle of fresh herbs or a squeeze of lemon juice just before serving adds a refreshing contrast.

  • Presentation: Arrange the fritters on a stylish serving plate, garnished with lemon wedges and mint leaves for that touch of elegance. You can use baby tomatoes to give a different texture to the dish.
